LPC recognises the need to continually assess and investigate methods of production and working practices that improve on our interaction and protection of the environment. The steps that have been taken are summarised below:

Paper
100% of paper waste during production cycle is collected from the premises and recycled. Analysis of machine set up sheets has been undertaken in depth which has resulted in a continual reduction in press waste.

Plates & Developing Chemicals
100% of all aluminium plates are collected from the premises and recycled. LPC was one of the first printing companies to adopt the use of process free plates.  Process free plates develop on the press – thus eliminating all requirements for developing and fixing agents at the plate making stage.

Press Chemicals
Most press chemicals have either been eradicated or replaced with eco friendly alternatives. Usage of those which have no replacements as yet are kept to the minimum. Automatic wash up facilities on both presses ensure that fluid usage is kept to the lowest possible levels. Low alcohol fount is used which reduces the amount of alcohol to a few percent. LPC continues to investigate the viability of alcohol free printing.

Ink
Our main 10 colour press uses an “inkline” system which reduced press ink wastage by 90%. The cartridges have the contaminated nozzle removed from them and are removed from the premises and recycled. Ink tins are removed and recycled. All inks are vegetable based rather than oil based inks.

Rags
LPC has adopted the use of rags instead of paper wipes for machine cleaning. The rags are collected from the premises – laundered and returned for future use. The use of rags eliminates the waste of paper wipes. Because paper wipes are contaminated with chemicals they can not be recycled.

Plastic
LPC uses specialist companies for the removal of all plastic waste from the premises for recycling. This includes all plastic pallet wrapping material – which is the main source of plastic in the production cycle. In addition all plastic cups, pallet strapping, and aluminium cans are also collected for recycling.

Internal Housekeeping
LPC trains and encourages all colleagues to be environmentally aware. The environment is discussed at board meetings and management meetings.  All departments are encouraged to seek to improve how we interact with our environment.

Landfill Waste
LPC understands that not all waste can be recycled. With recent initiatives LPC has reduced its landfill waste by more than 80%. LPC continues to monitor and try where possible to reduce this further.

As an international organisation, The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) finds solutions which promote responsible stewardship of the world’s forests

The FSC chain of custody (CoC) tracks FSC certified material through the production process - from the forest to the consumer, and only FSC CoC certified operations are allowed to label products with FSC trademarks.

LPC Printing's FSC certification thus provides the link between responsible production and consumption and enables our cutomers to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.
